The Foundation shares the belief that through education comes a future of promise and hope, through education comes empowerment of women in society, and through empowerment comes change.
With this belief we established a scholarship programme in 2003. We began with a small group of girls at the Liangshang Minorities Middle School, with the help of the Headmaster, Mr Lee, we choose the girls who were the brightest in their grade but due to their families economic situation were going to be removed from school, to be married off to a young man in their village and to begin a life of hardship and poverty. Through the Scholarship programme and support of their individual sponsors, that small group of girls are now at University. The Foundation is now assisting over 100 children through our Scholarship programme
Scholarship Programme
The Scholarship programme supports gifted girls, orphans, children of single parent families and those who are the most disadvantaged.
The sponsored children are from economically disadvantaged Yi, Mosu, Tibetan and Naxi families from remote rural communities where we have either constructed a new primary school, or have a relationship with the village.
Through this programme we identify the most 'at risk' children and match them to an individual sponsor who will then support the child, by providing the child’s annual education costs to enable the child to finish their Primary, Junior, Senior and University education. Each sponsor receives a photo and regular updates about their child's welfare and progress, and each child knows about their new family.
The cost provides for the child’s school fees, accommodation, food, medical and dental care, books, bedding and clothes.
The Cost of Sponsoring a Child
Primary School
- Child living at home RMB4,000 per year
- Child living at school RMB4,500 per year
Junior Middle School
- Child living at school RMB4,500 per year
Senior Middle School
- Child living at school RMB5,000 per year
University Education
- Cost will vary depending on the University and location
