Through education comes knowledge, through knowledge comes empowerment. The purpose of the Charles Foundation is to assist disadvantaged minority children, especially girls, in remote mountain communities, to attend school. Education of girls is emphasised by the Foundation, as it is still customary for many minority communities in remote rural areas to deny girls opportunity. The Foundation considers the welfare of the children to be of paramount importance. We believe that it is in each child's best interest to remain within the familiar surroundings of the family unit and their own community, culture, and language. The Foundation funds carefully selected projects in the Liangshan Yizu and Tibetan autonomous regions of Sichuan province, for:

The Charles Foundation was founded in 2001 by Josephine Charles. Since its inception, Jo has project managed and raised the funding to construct eight new schools and refurbish three. Through the Child Sponsorship Programme The Foundation has over 200 children being helped to complete their education through the generosity of their sponsors and support of the Foundation.
